Does that look right? Am I forgetting anyone? I left Kelly off because if he entered the portal he's not coming back.

7 players that had significant playing time plus Riggins who practiced with the team. The height of the guards seems problematic.

Two weeks ago I was optimistic about the upcoming season. Now, with the two most important parts declaring for the transfer portal, the picture has changed dramatically. .....Now, in addition to fixing the defensive shortcoming, the offensive will have a different look. You could say that the coaches will have faced this same situation a year from now, but now are forced to play inexperienced players right away this coming season. .....Not to seem negative, but I don't see highly rated player who we have offered on VC. [except Will Young] .....I feel Marfo's move to a P5 conference may help him secure a better professional contract in Europe next year. .....I don't feel Kelly's moving on will improve his professional chances in Europe.
.....Again, not to seem negative, but we need a talent infusion this offseason.

I was waiting for you to respond to all this! Lots of thoughts. First, just thinking of reasons why you would move on. If you are tired of playing in half empty gyms and you want to see what big time hoops is like I get that. Maybe you don't get along with your coaches, I get that as well. Does being a back up in a better league give you a better chance of playing over seas? I don't know the answer to that. Maybe you feel like individually there is nothing left to prove. All valid reasons for leaving. However, with Marfo and Kelly we were 15 and 15. Last year with these guys and Cam Young we were still just a few games over 500. Kelly plays no D and Marfo is limited offensively. If those two are looking for the thrill of playing in a big conference and playing limited minutes then ok, but I think they are bad moves. Peter Kiss is the 14th man on the Rutgers Bench. Micky Dixon lasted half a season at St Johns and is now playing D 2 ball. Is kelly much different from those two? How is Marfo different then any other forward in the big east or big ten? In those leagues everyone is 6'8 and strong. I am shocked at the schools that have contacted him. I don't see him being dominate in a stronger league. Kelly? He's a good point guard in this league. He's going to guard the kids in the big east and big ten? No chance. He won't be able to dribble past anyone either. Again, with these guys we were 500. What was going to change if these guys stayed? Why would we have been much better? Wherever they end up it will be fun to watch and talk about. My guess is Marfo to St Johns. Kelly, no idea.

That's all true......I was hesitant to paint that picture, but we are in a hole.
.....I can't figure it out. I am wondering how aggressive our coaches are on recruiting top talent. Now with the limited face too face time, we seem to be trailing other MAAC schools badly this year. .....There is no question the PORTAL is a great way for P5 schools to cherry pick top talent in lesser conferences.
.....It is such a shame to see the poor attendance. Some of that may have to do with the demographics of where the students come from. However wining would fix that in time. Most games I've attended have had crowds in the 1000-1500 range. SAD !.....There seems to be no attempt to market youth groups for weekend games LIKE MOST D1 SCHOOLS.....There are no "COACHES SHOWS" that I am aware of, LIKE MOST D1 SCHOOLS. It seems to me, that the AD and staff is asleep.
Apathy throughout the program, at every level, IMO

It's tough to recruit the Maac when you can't offer immediate playing time. As it is, we return 7 kids who saw time on the court plus Riggins. That's 8 guys in the rotation right there. If your that good where you can come in and start over those kids as a freshmen, you probably are looking to play in a better conference. Mid Majors are in such a tough spot. Look at St Peter's. They recruited real good talent and the best kid just left to move up. If you develop talent, they leave when they are older. (QU) Not sure what the answer is.

Even in the A10 the problem with transfers has started. ......I post on the URI forum [called Keaney Blue]. Rhody lost three in the last month. Two already scooped up, one 4 star just declared. 6-7 SG with great defense........where are you QU?
.....Ed Coswell that I mentioned on the recruiting thread just committed to PC. Cooley is an aggressive recruiter, but has the resume to back it up.
Can the eight you mention be a good rotation?......say .500+ next year ? .....Can they play better defense than this years team?

For next years team to be 500 or better:
Pickney has to make a big jump. He certainly has the skill set. He needs to take Marfos minutes. What doesn't help is that school is shut down so they don't have him in the weight room.
I like lewis at the point. Before he got hurt he showed the ability to get past defenders and score. That will help Rigoni as defenses will have to collapse and lewis can kick it out to him. Lewis needs to be healthy and Rigoni has to find his confidence and consistent stroke.
Pickron and Riggins need to be the scorers we have heard about. Going to need offense from at least one of them
Balanc and McGuire need to make the jump from young and average to good.
Williams needs to be the best player on the team
the team will be sophomors and juniors. Time to step up.

With the addition of Bol, that looks like 10 scholarship players. We have 3 more openings.
